The dreadful moment of realisation. The wreckage of what was once a beauty, all over the road. Once the shock wears off and panic ensues, what now?
Keep calm, there is no need to panic if you have a good insurance policy.
Good news, your private comprehensive motor insurance covers accidental collision, so there’s that out of the way. What happens next, after you have lodged a claim? We will consider three options to settle your claim:
• pay for your vehicle to be repaired;
• pay in cash the amount of damage, after considering factors such as wear and tear; or
• replace what is damaged, if that is more cost-effective than to repair.
Our team will communicate the decision in the shortest delay of time to keep you informed of the next steps. In the meantime, no worries, we will provide you with a replacement car, if you had a ‘loss of use’ coverage under your policy.
While we settle what will be covered, you have to know that there are certain exceptions to claims. For example, if you intentionally damaged your car or you suffer financial loss as a result of damaging your car. Check your policy book for a more comprehensive detail.
If you only have a third party, you will not have to pay out of pocket for the damage caused to the other car, but unfortunately any damage you incur will have to be met by yourself.
