Have you thought about where you’re going this August? If yes, great. Make sure you book your flights early and secure your accommodation because the rest of the world is also planning theirs.
As a Seychellois, you’re probably thinking about shopping-friendly destinations. But why not mix it up a little bit this year and add some more excitement to your plans. There are so many things to do and places to visit that will make your travel worthwhile and memorable.
Nature
Take a day to visit some of the most beautiful sites in the world. Whether you are an avid hiker, a lover of all things nature or you just want to experience a once in a lifetime moment, every country will have something truly memorable for you. Visit the volcanic wonder of the seven coloured earths in Mauritius, the Kruger National Park in South Africa, the Amber Mountain National Park in Madagascar, the Tsavo East National Park in Kenya, the Blue Nile Falls in Ethiopia, the Khao Yai National Park in Thailand or go on a desert safari in Dubai.
Amusement
Surprisingly, holidays can be really stressful especially if you have children. To stop the complaints and tantrums, add some fun to your itinerary. Luckily, most places have so many attractions to offer. Take a day trip to Disneyland in Paris, ride on the London Eye, take a dip at the Gold Reef City in Jo’Burg, enjoy the Casela World of Adventures in Mauritius or learn to ski or snowboard at the Ski Dubai.
Culture
It would be a shame to visit a country and not carve out a little time to learn about their culture and history. There are so many iconic monuments to see and many interesting practices to learn that will make you appreciate the country even more. These can be the Taj Mahal in India, the Dambulla Cave Temple in Sri Lanka, the National Museum of Qatar, the Emirates Heritage Club Heritage Village in Abu Dhabi, the Fasil Ghebbi in Ethiopia or the Robben Island in South Africa. Remember to respect other culture and be sure you do some research before getting on the plane.
Relaxation
Combine fun, exploration and learning with relaxation. Lounge by the poolside with your cocktail, visit a spa or simply relax on the beach. Places like Thailand, Mauritius, South Africa, Sri Lanka, France, Kenya and India have some well-known beaches.
Shopping
It goes without saying because I know most of you will end up shopping and you probably also know where to shop. There is one thing you can do differently though, buy something unique from the country you’re visiting. It can be a painting, a small ornament or a local craft. When you’re older it will be a great accessory for when you tell your grandkids about all the awesome places you visited back in the day.
Make sure you plan your holiday carefully and well in advance. Do some research about the country and make an itinerary before you get there. You don’t have to follow it rigidly but at least you will have an idea of what you are going to do once you reach your destination. Pack lightly and don’t forget your travel insurance, you will likely need it regardless of what you choose to do.
