By now if you have not booked a flight yet, it basically means you’re planning to stay in Seychelles this August. There’s no reason why you cannot spend a great holiday in your own country and do things a little bit differently. You will be amazed to know that there are many places that you are yet to visit. Don’t waste any more time and learn more about the gems in your own country.
Snorkel in the best spots
There are many places to snorkel in Seychelles but don’t limit yourself and go to some of the very best ones. You will find those in pristine and untouched areas with vibrant and abundant biodiversity. If you’re lucky, you can get the chance to swim among turtles. For the best spots, we recommend snorkelling at Sainte Anne Marine Park, Grande Soeur, Ile Coco, Curieuse, Port Launay Marine Park, Baie Ternay Marine Park, Anse Major and Anse Soleil. Some of these places are only accessible by boat, so if you don’t have your own boat, you can book an excursion.
Go for a walk on a nature trail
There is no better way to absorb the lush and greenery enveloping the islands than to take it all in on a nature walk. There are various designated nature trails on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue to choose from. For a memorable finish, you can enjoy a picturesque view of the islands or opt for a more relaxing end on the beach. Some of the popular trails include Anse Major, Morne Blanc, Cassedent, Glacis Trois Freres, Salazie Nature Trail, Grand Barbe, Fond Ferdinand amongst many others.
Adventure and thrill-seeking
While activities may be limited in Seychelles, as locals we know how to make our own fun. There’s no harm though in adding more fun to your holiday. For those that are more daring, you can go zip lining and rock climbing in the south of Mahé, jet-skiing and parasailing in the north, scuba diving, surfing or horse-back riding on the beach. You may also opt for a day of game fishing if you are up for it. Do not miss out on the 15th August celebrations on La Digue, the famous annual festival which promises lots of activities well into the night.
Visit national parks and reserves
Why not spend one day in your holiday to capture and enjoy some of our national parks. You can see why these places are well-protected. You can also observe some of the wildlife unique to Seychelles. Such places include world heritage sites like Vallee de Mai; national parks like Morne Seychellois and Praslin National Park and Veuve Special Reserve.
Relax on some of the best beaches in the world
As a local we all have our favourite spots in the country far away from busy, touristic areas. But if you live on one island, you may have not yet visited some of the most popular beaches on other islands. Here are a few recommendations: Anse Source d’Argent and Grand Anse on La Digue; Anse Georgette, Anse Lazio, Anse Kerlan on Praslin; Fairyland, Anse Soleil, Sunset Beach, Police Bay, Anse Intendance, Carana Beach on Mahé. You can also spend a day on one of our tiny, picturesque islands such as L’Islette Island and Ile Therese.
