Chances are, if you drive, you’re bound to get into an accident at some point or another. If you already have, then you probably know what to do. If you’re one of the lucky ones who have never been in such an unfortunate incident, it’s still worth the read. You never know, the information might come in handy one day.
1) Are you or anyone around you seriously injured?
The very first thing you should do is to check if you or anyone around you is hurt. Your most important phone call is therefore to emergency services. It goes without saying that a quick response can help to save a life.
2) Always call the police!
After a car accident most people tend to experience a certain degree of shock that renders them incapable of properly assessing the situation. Police officers will be better positioned to record the details of the accident. You will also be required to write down your own statement. If it is a minor fender bender, you should be able to reasonably resolve this with the other driver involved and exchange insurance and contact details.
3) Should I call Sacos?
You should always call Sacos following your accident, if you intend to make a claim. We will guide you on what you need to do and which documents you require. One of our officers may be on ground to assess the situation and provide any immediate assistance. A towing-service may be made available to you to transport your damaged vehicle to a garage.
4) File a claim
You will need to complete a claims form to detail the nature of your claim. Don’t forget to attach relevant documents such as police reports, medical reports etc. You will need to submit quotations from auto repair shops before you proceed with repairing your vehicle. Once this is agreed upon, your car can be repaired and your insurance will cover the costs. If your car is beyond repair, then a pay-out will be made directly to you.
5) Do you have a loss of use cover under your motor insurance?
If you do, we will provide you with a temporary car so that you can go about your normal business.
